Apple’s MacBook portfolio includes some robust offerings, such as the recently refreshed MacBook Pro lineup with the powerhouse M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. But in between these launches, we’ve also come across rumours of the company working on a MacBook bearing a touchscreen OLED display. We’re now getting more information on this front courtesy of a reliable industry source.
Contrary to popular belief, the 9to5Mac report claims that the MacBook Air will be the first to introduce OLED screens into the series. Moreover, the publication says that Apple could continue using mini-LED displays on the MacBook Pro lineup in the foreseeable future.

Apple OLED MacBook Air rumoured launch date
9to5 mentions that the manufacturer’s first OLED MacBook could arrive in the early months of 2024. Divulging more details on the display technology of this new MacBook Air, the report says Apple will utilize tandem stack technology known to improve display lifespan and other performance-related attributes.
Separate reporting suggests that Apple could be preparing to outfit the rumoured M3 chipset within the 13 and 15-inch variants of the MacBook Air. Apple is investing big in its chipset technology, and early results show it performing on par (or even better) than most of its competitors. Apple could unveil its first OLED MacBooks at WWDC 2024 in June of next year, so there’s still some waiting left to do.
Adding more credence to this notion, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also speculated that Apple would unveil its first OLED MacBooks before the end of 2024. Until then, we hope to encounter a barrage of leaks and rumours to shed more light on the Cupertino-giant’s next-gen hardware.
The folks at 9to5Mac note that the branding strategy for the upcoming OLED MacBooks is still uncertain. While they’re likely to be part of the Air lineup, the company could just as likely resurrect the plain MacBook moniker, which has been missing from Apple’s portfolio for a while now. Having both a standard MacBook Air and an OLED MacBook Air could pose some branding challenges for the company, hence it makes sense to make it part of a new lineup altogether.
