We’re still recovering from the just concluded Apple Wonderlust hardware launch event, which saw the unveiling of the iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Along expected lines, the manufacturer also took the wraps off the Apple Watch Series 9.
Thanks to a ton of leaks and rumours from reputed sources, we already knew a fair bit about what to expect from the Apple wearable. And it seems like those reports were right for the most part. So what’s new with the company’s next-gen wearable? Let’s have a look:

Apple Watch Series 9 specifications
First things first, Apple is making incremental improvements to the design of the new smartwatch. This is likely to accommodate the big 10th-anniversary refresh next year, rumoured to be dubbed the Apple Watch X.
Nevertheless, in addition to the frequently rumoured Pink colourway, the Apple Watch Series 9 also introduces the S9 processor underneath, unlocking some cool features in the process. There are obvious improvements in performance and battery life here (18 hours), which Apple briefly spoke about during the unveiling. Much to our surprise, a brighter 2000-nit display is present on the Series 9, which is certainly a welcome addition.
We particularly love the addition of Double Tap, which is a Series 9 exclusive, apparently enabled by the new S9 processor. This basically lets you answer/end calls, control timers, move through stacks on the watch face, and a whole lot more by simply tapping your thumb against the index finger. Apple is further including Precision Finding for iPhones, offering a refined way of locating your lost iPhone with real-time indicators.
However, Apple says Double Tap will only be available in October, meaning it won’t be available on the wearable on launch day. The company is also introducing a new watch band known as FineWoven, set to replace the company’s leather bands as part of its environmental sustainability goals. The manufacturer has also launched four new series of luxury Hermès watch bands, replacing leather options.
Apple Watch Series 9 India price and availability
The Apple Watch Series 9 will set you back by $399 and $499 for the GPS and GPS+Cellular variants, respectively. Both versions are up for pre-order right away in the US. However, the manufacturer didn’t reveal if the wearable will go on sale at the same time in India as well. But since the price tag is unchanged from last year, we expect the Apple Watch Series 9 to cost the same as its predecessor.
Update: India pricing for Apple Watch Series 9 is now announced. You will have to shell out Rs 41,900 for the 41mm watch while the 45mm is available for Rs 44,900. It is available for pre-order now and will be available starting September 22, 2023.
