In a recent court case, sensitive material regarding Microsoft has surfaced in the public domain, revealing unredacted details of the tech giant’s upcoming plans for the Xbox series, including new consoles and a dedicated cloud gaming device.
First reported by The Verge, the leaked documents shed light on an Xbox Series X console refresh, slated for release in 2024, codenamed Brooklin. This unannounced console refresh has been extensively discussed in the Xbox 2030 roadmap.
A new console
Among the leaked details, a slide provides a first look at the new console, featuring a distinctive circular design and the absence of a disc drive. Internal documents reveal the console will boast 2TB of storage, a USB-C port with power delivery capabilities, and a completely redesigned controller.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to incorporate Wi-Fi 6E support, a Bluetooth 5.2 chip, and a new chip based on 6nm architecture for enhanced efficiency. The company is aiming for a launch price of $499, mirroring that of the Xbox Series X.
The roadmap also references a refresh for the Xbox Series S, expected to arrive with 1TB of storage, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E support. Both these console updates are rumored to launch sometime next year.
A new controller
In addition to the console refreshes, Microsoft is also working on a new controller called Sebille, set to debut later this year. This controller introduces gyro support, along with Bluetooth 5.2. Notably, it now offers cloud connectivity, an updated Xbox Wireless 2 connection, and a two-tone color scheme.
The controller’s additional features encompass precision haptic feedback speakers, quieter buttons, swappable batteries, modular thumbsticks, and a motion-activated wake feature. These updates are poised to enhance the gaming experience for Xbox users.
