Passengers will be able to use DigiYatra at IGI Airport Terminal 2, 3 by March

By the end of March, Delhi airport operator DIAL plans to offer facial recognition-based DigiYatra services at all entry and boarding gates of Terminals 2 and 3. At the entry gates of Terminal 1 of the airport, DigiYatra is expected to be operational by April.

There are three terminals at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). On December 1, 2022, the DigiYatra facility was introduced at three airports – Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi. “At present, around 2,500 passengers are using DigiYatra at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 every day. After the installation of all the DigiYatra infrastructure at Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, around 40 percent of the daily domestic travellers will be able to get seamless entry into the terminal, security check area, and boarding gates,” according to a DIAL statement.

DigiYatra will save passengers around 15-25 minutes from entry checks to security checks during peak hours, as they will only have to spend a few seconds at every touchpoint. Upon completion, DigiYatra-enabled entry gates will be operational at Terminal 1 by April 2023. The DigiYatra biometric boarding system uses facial recognition technology to make airport boarding seamless and hassle-free. 

MOCA and Digi Yatra Foundation have launched the DigiYatra platform to facilitate contactless identification of passengers at airports. The initiative aims to create a society that is digitally empowered. 

By using DigiYatra, passengers can store their IDs and travel documents on a decentralized mobile-based ID storage platform, reducing wait times and making the boarding process faster and more efficient. The system also employs advanced biometric security solutions, enabling flyers to pass through cameras with limited physical contact quickly.
