A distinguishing feature of TikTok that helped it gain popularity back in the day was the ability to download videos and share the videos to other apps. It helped TikTok gain popularity with users on other platforms watching these videos with the watermark present in these shared videos. Many alternatives to TikTok, such as Moj and Josh, have had this feature since their inception, but when Instagram introduced Reels as an alternative to TikTok, it didn’t clone the download feature.

Now, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has announced the new download reels feature via his Instagram Broadcast Channel. For now, US-based users will be able to download reels to their camera roll.

It is not known currently when the download Reels option will be live in more locations, including India, as he has not mentioned that.

Only Reels from public accounts can be downloaded like this. You can’t download Reels videos from private accounts even if you follow them.

The downloaded videos will have the Instagram watermark and the username of the account who posted the account as well.
