Google’s latest ad claims the Pixel 8 will be more hyped than the iPhone 15

The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will be officially revealed on October 4. There’s practically zero mystery left about the device, with multiple leaks spilling all the details on the upcoming flagships over the past few weeks.
Google has shared some images of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro through its official website, suggesting that the company is embracing some of these early leaks. In its bid to hype up the marketing for its upcoming Pixel 8 flagship duo, Google has now reintroduced its Best Friends Forever commercial with the latest instalment titled “Scary Story,” starring the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, which made its debut earlier this month, and what appears to be the Pixel 7 Pro.

The commercial follows in the same fashion as some of the others in the past but takes a bit of a leap in hinting that there’s more hype over the Pixel 8 than the iPhone 15. While Apple hasn’t released the sales figures for its recently launched flagship just yet, the long waiting lines outside Apple Stores in Delhi and Mumbai (BKC) have illustrated its widespread popularity.
As we’ve already discussed in the past, it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max before November if you’re placing the order today. It’s unclear, however, as to whether this is due to the heavy demand or a case of Apple not preparing adequately for the big launch.
The lack of AI features is a key differentiator
Google also takes digs against the iPhone 15’s lack of AI features, which is valid to some extent, as the former has a robust system of generative AI experiences built across multiple services, including Search. Some of the leaked marketing materials have also revealed some AI-based image editing capabilities on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
This commercial suggests that Google wants to market the Pixel 8 as an AI powerhouse, an area where Apple is clearly lagging behind at this point. Some camera upgrades are also onboard the upcoming Pixel flagship, so it will be interesting to see how it fares against Apple’s hard-to-get flagships.
