For some time, rumours have swirled about OnePlus entering the foldable smartphone arena with a rebranded OPPO Find N product. In an interview with Unbox Therapy, Pete Lau, the founder of OnePlus, has confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus Open will indeed be a rebranded OPPO Find N3. The OPPO Find N3 is set to launch in China later this month.

Lau shed light on OnePlus’ substantial investment in foldable technology, boasting over 600 patents related to the device’s hinge mechanism. Given the pivotal role of hinges in foldable phones, OnePlus’ focus on this component is understandable. Their hinge design is gapless, similar to the Find N2, but with notable improvements. The OnePlus Open’s hinge is reported to be 37% smaller than the Find N2’s hinge and involves 31 fewer components.

During the Unbox Therapy interview, the host, Lewis Hilsenteger, demonstrated the OnePlus Open’s gapless hinge by closing it with a sheet of paper inside. The device was showcased from various angles, validating previously leaked renders. However, certain sections of the phone, including the camera bump, remained concealed under paper.

The camera setup is speculated to comprise a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide-angle lens, and a 64MP periscope zoom lens.

On the software front, the OnePlus Open is expected to run the newly designed OxygenOS 13 Build, optimized for foldable devices. Previous leaks have suggested that the phone will be powered by a 4,800mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging.

While OnePlus has yet to confirm these details officially, rumours suggest that the OnePlus Open foldable phone may make its debut on October 19.
