Highlights
  • The Apple iPhone 15 Pro models feature aerospace-grade titanium in their body, a component known for its durability
  • However, a new drop test video indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra could be more durability, but not by much
  • Apple is currently struggling to deliver orders of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, with shipments pushed to November, in some cases

The Apple iPhone 15 and 15 Pro series are officially here, although whether you have one right now depends on when you pre-ordered the device. Now that it’s been a couple of weeks since it was made available, we’re getting some new info on its hardware, such as the now-debunked notion that the titanium body was the reason behind the device’s overheating complaints.

Apple’s use of aerospace-grade titanium on the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max was also meant to make it more durable. And a new drop test video posted by YouTuber PhoneBuff puts that notion to the test.

The video pits Apple’s latest flagship against the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which also features a glass back panel, much like the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. PhoneBuff conducted the drop test in four “rounds” to ascertain which model could sustain the best.

Overall, however, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra just eked out the iPhone 15 Pro Max by 2 points after going through rigorous drops from multiple angles and on different surfaces. You can check out how both devices fared in this detailed video below:

Is the Galaxy S23 Ultra better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Although the results of this drop test suggest that despite being a marginal contest, the Samsung flagship was better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But if you’re prone to accidentally dropping your expensive smartphone in multiple angles, no device can truly stay for long.

As a precaution, such buyers should consider getting accidental damage coverage like Samsung Care+ and AppleCare+ for their devices. However, claims may be limited due to the nature of the damage and depending on how often you file a claim. In most cases, however, getting a rugged case for either smartphone should do the trick.
